“A miracle is really the only way to describe motherhood and giving birth. It’s unbelievable how God has made us women and babies to endure and be able to do so much. A miracle, indeed. Such an incredible blessing.”
Sunny Carlisle, MA, BDT(DONA),
CD(DONA), LCCE, CLC
I have been supporting and educating expectant and new families since 2003. After the birth of my first child, I felt called to support families during the childbearing year. I attended a DONA International Birth Doula workshop, certified as a birth doula, and began supporting families during labor and birth. A few years later I became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and started teaching childbirth and parenting classes.
My passion for supporting families continued,
so I attended a DONA International Postpartum Doula workshop. I started providing postpartum doula services in 2010. In 2013 I became a Certified Lactation Counselor and in 2014
I was approved as a DONA International
Birth Doula Trainer.
I have a Master’s Degree in Child and Family Development from The University of Akron and Bachelor’s Degrees in Microbiology and Clinical Laboratory Science from Miami University.
I live with my husband and 6 children on a little homestead in Delaware County. In my free time,
I enjoy listening to music, reading, writing fiction and academic manuscripts, being outdoors, and spending time with my big, busy family.
“Once you bring life into this world, you must protect it. We must protect it by changing the world.” Elie Wiesel
"My son is turning five tomorrow. I still tell every pregnant friend and acquaintance: “Find a doula. Mine was a lifesaver!” Sunny is the reason I rave about the vital support doulas can provide new mothers and new families. I cannot recommend her enough."
“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” John Bowring

My husband and I contracted with Sunny Carlisle and Sunny Day Family Services, Ltd., for the birth of our son, Nathan, in the summer of 2010. Sunny’s assistance in preparation for labor, during the labor and birth, as well as postpartum was invaluable.
She was consistently helpful, professional, and knowledgeable, and on many occasions went out of her way to ensure we had exactly what we needed without our asking. Her training in childbirth, education, and her personal experience as a mother made hiring
her one of the best choices we made surrounding the birth of our son.
As we approached our due date, Sunny was regularly available for questions and advice. She balanced the need for good information with the necessity of relying on the expert opinion of doctors. Both my husband and I found her input reassuring as we made the final decisions surrounding our birth preferences and prepared for our newborn’s arrival. She frequently helped us to weed through information by reflecting the perspective she had heard from us during our initial discussions. Having someone who not only knew the options but also had taken the time to understand our family’s preferences was a great service to us.
During the labor and birth, her presence ensured we could focus on the birth process and our growing family with calm reassurance that we were making the best decisions, were not forgetting anything critical, and were in good hands. She worked seamlessly and professionally with the hospital staff, making certain that our preferences were known, educating us throughout the process about what was happening, and giving me wonderful encouragement as I labored.
After we arrived home as first time parents, Sunny provided postpartum support over the course of two weeks. Although we had done our best to educate ourselves, there were inevitably issues and questions that arose - including the emotional and hormonal fluctuations that follow birth. Sunny supported us with good information, encouragement, and a third pair of hands to help with the initially seemingly insurmountable task of caring for a newborn. With her assistance, we got our parental feet under us within those two weeks. Although we were not experts at the end of those two weeks (and still aren’t), we felt that we had found our “groove” with her help and could handle our new responsibilities as parents.
In addition, Sunny’s support helped me through a rough start with breastfeeding my son. She educated and supported me, and the result was that I was able to breastfeed my son as I wanted. I am so grateful for the head start she gave my son in this regard.
I cannot recommend Sunny and her services highly enough. Her knowledge is impressive and her love of children, the birth process, and seeing families grow shows in everything she does. Should we decide to have a second child, I will absolutely be seeking a doula’s services, and I can think of none better than Sunny.
